[edit] Description:

This charming place is good if you are looking for a romantic, mood-lit, place for a nice meal. But, there are caveats! See below.

[edit] Prices:

We went on Valentine's Day, so the menu was Price Fixed ($75/person without desert, $85/person with). It is generally fairl;y pricey, but not more than you would see at any other NYC top-tier restaurant.

[edit] Reviews:

We were there for Valentine's Day. The small, below-street-level restaurant seemed quaint and cozy upon entry. We were excited to be there and take it all in. But, unfortunately, while it had many positives, the negatives outweighed them throughly. After sitting in the bar area and having a drink, we were sat near the window. While a window seat is usually a huge plus, the window area here meant lots of street noise and a strong breeze on a cold night. It was not pleasant. Plus, the chairs were less than comfy. We requested to move to another table, and they gladly moved us without issue. After sitting for a few minutes, we had to request they bring us some bread. They brought two measly pieces, which we devoured in short order. We requested more and were told they were out of bread, at 9:00 on V-day, which is a bad sign to me. We were disappointed.

We ordered salads, and our meal. Both salads were good but nothing spectacular. Mine was a Frisee and Blue Cheese salad, which was tasty but extremely small. My girlfriend's was an arugola salad with Parmesan, which was average. After we ripped through those salads, we were extremely hungry. When the meal arrived, my GF's salmon was "oily, and not that great." My baby chicken was a bit dry, but the bed of mashed potatoes and veggies was REALLY good. I could have made a meal out of those, if there were more. But, like the salads, we both agreed that our main courses were very small. I joked that it was just an appetizer, and we'd grab some pizza on the way home.

We decided to pass on desert and go to Magnolia Bakery (only 2 blocks) for cupcakes. It was a great decision. The deserts looked ordinary and not too spectacular.

This place was very nice, and the wait staff and host could not have been nicer, friendlier, and more helpful. But, the food and portion sizes left a lot to be desired. If you are a "foody" and looking for an impressive place to bring a date, this may be a good fit. But if you are looking for a hearty meal that sticks to your ribs, look elsewhere.
